Massachusetts boy, 5, warned by school for making Lego toy gun Published January 29, 2013 FoxNews.com
Joseph Cardosa may reportedly face suspension after making a toy gun out of Legos. (MyFoxBoston.com) A 5-year-old boy in Massachusetts may be suspended after he reportedly built a toy gun out of Legos during an after-school program. Joseph Cardosa, the student, is part of the after-school program at Hyannis West Elementary School, on Cape Cod, MyFoxBoston.com reported. A few days ago, his parents received a letter that said the boy has received his first written warning for using toys inappropriately, and that upon a second written warning, he will be suspended from the program for two weeks. The boy's parents, Shelia Cruz and Octavio Cardosa, say the school is taking things too far. "It's not like he's designing a machine gun," said Cardosa. “I can understand with all the things that are going on right now in schools, but on the other hand, kids are taught you know 'here's a squirt gun, this is fun.'” The principal of Hyannis West Elementary told MyFoxBoston.com, "we need a safe environment for our students. While someone might think that making a Lego gun is just an action of a 5-year-old, to other 5-year-olds, that might be a scary experience."

omg how stupid can people be? a five year old shouldn't need punished for designing a familiar object and playing with it. fine motor development and pretend play should be counted as just that and not be over analyzed or criticized. The only inappropriate thing a five year old can do with leggos is hit other children with them or leave them on the floor where ppl can step on them. anything else is just bullshit that is going to stifle the little guys cognitive and social development. and yes I'm a preschool teacher with an associates in early child development. I'm not talking out my ass.

Oh thats not the worst of it.. A girl, got suspended for making a playful threat to her school mate that she was going to shoot her with a toy "Hello Kitty Bubble Gun." She was suspended for that.. There was also a girl that got suspended for having a piece of paper, that was ripped into the shape of a gun. She was taken out of the class and questioned by the police, and staff. Basically they were treating her like a criminal and that she was going to commit a violent crime with a piece of paper.. I believe she was either suspended or her parents pulled her out of school which there now suing.

If the schools are going to be THIS ridiculous, then they, at the VERY LEAST, need to have a big auditorium speech about the whole thing so that these kids stop getting suspended or in trouble for things they don't even know are "SUPPOSEDLY" WRONG. I am surprised that lawyers are not having a field day with this, personally.

yeah I remember that one too. that's so stupid. these schools are being so retarded. The government is wayyyyy overstepping its boundaries as far as Im concerned. these schools are doing a lot of damage to these little guys in these dumbass witch hunts, all under the guise of "protecting" all these other kids. They are trying so hard to give the illusion of safety when it's really just crap. and beurocracy.
