Made it through a 5K, today. Working my way back up to a daily 10K run. Feels like it's a LONG way off!

I have a idea that always works for me well atleast before I cant walk. By chance do you have any cadence? If not go to youtube or something and download some. It keeps you on pace and on beat, helps control breathing and you gain distance quicker that way I've found

Hey thanks! I will give that a try. Music is usually my thing, but I'd like to run a marathon, and they have been getting a little weird about letting people listen to music and run. Safety maybe?

I used to just run but in boot they make you use cadence and up to afew years ago I still used it and it truly works. And the nice thing about it is alot of them are so catchy that they stick in your head and when you are not allowed to use Ipod or something you find yourself saying it and your feet automatically get into step and so does breathing lol

I will talk to my hubby about that. He is Navy. Last April, we were involved in a head on collision with a truck. Then he drove down the driver side of the car. I was driving. After months and months of rehab, recovered from a brain injury, broken ribs, countless sutures, staples to my head, both knees and elbows smashed, I am really ready to get moving again. My hubby did a little bit better with a broken nose, an issue with his jaw, wrist, feet, ankle and knee sprains, but he is doing better, too. Thanks for the encouragement and helpfulness! ;D

Oh goodness! Sounds like we have a little bit in common, especially the wish to return to running. I am thankful to be alive, but I do miss my old life.

I have Degenerative disc disease (already have 3 vert that are fused in neck, and more that needs to be done in thoracic), Chiari malformation (had brain surgery for it in July) and syringomyelia which are cysts inside of the spinal cord killing nerves. I used to run 5 miles a day easily. Most of my injuries are from falling off my birds while in the navy. Now I can barely walk across the living room lol Oh yah I would love to get back to running!! There is nothing like the feeling of it. You have a second chance so go for it, don't let the stupid rules about no Ipod's or something get in way, find a way around it. Divide and conquer is way to do it!

My husband is Navy ... submarine force. He told me to tell you, "HOOYAH!" I am also a nurse, so I know about your diagnoses. I can't say I know how you feel, as I suffer pain from my injuries and terrible migraines from the head injury, but that back/neck pain is awful. I believe I may have found some inspiration to get up and at least walk, if nothing else, and think about your motivation to divide and conquer. Small steps. My heart goes out to you, and I thank you for your service, and mostly for your sacrifice. You have given a lot for our country, and for people like me, and I truly, truly appreciate you.

aaww thank you. Nurses are a godsend. I've found only afew that actually know about my diagnoses so I am in shock lol!! The migraines and pain are over tops at times. I know exactly what you battle every day. Your husband is a subby? omg there is no way I could deal with being on a submarine for that long LOL when I was on deck one morning before ops started I decided to sneak a smoke ( a big no no) and a sub decided to give me a heartattack by surfacing right to my port, dropped my smoke and never lit up again LOL Tell your husband HOOYAH!!
