This is 100 percent true, because my soldier was just informed that his schooling has to be on hold because his tuition assistance is suspended. He can finish the classes he already has, because they are already paid for, but any other classes he had enrolled in for the future have to be cancelled for now. That is just great. Lets force soldiers out of the military, then strip them of any chance they may have of being marketable in the civilian sector. Fantastic. ~Admin H
Unfortunately I just recieved this in my inbox:
REQUEST WIDEST DISSEMINATION...
Leaders,
Due to the current fiscal challenges...
BLUF: The Secretary of the Army has approved the suspension of Tuition Assistance (TA) effective 1700 EST Friday, 08 March 2013 (or 0300 JST Saturday 09 March 2013).
NCO Support Channel - be prepared to gather info on Soldiers in your formation affected by this action, and advise CSM [removed] (in the 'cc' line), Army in Japan Command Senior Enlisted Leader, upon direction.
INFO:
1. The suspension applies to all components and will remain effect until the fiscal situation matures.
2. Soldiers will no longer be permitted to submit **NEW** requests for Tuition Assistance through the GoArmyEd portal.
3. Soldiers currently enrolled and participating in courses approved for tuition assistance are not affected and will be allowed to
complete current course(s) enrollment.
4. Soldiers can:
a. Continue to access their GI Bill benefits, if applicable (either the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) or the Post 9/11 GI Bill), or
b. Use another funding sources (i.e. grants, scholarships, or Army National Guard Soldiers using state Tuition Assistance).
5. Soldiers are encouraged to contact their local education centers for additional information.
